The HPV vaccine Gardisil(R) protects women against cervical cancers from Human papilomavirus which also causes precancerous genital lesions and genital warts. It is recommended for all women aged 9-26.

Should it be mandatory for school aged girls to be vaccinated? How do you feel about it? Ashlee D.Parker presents a great discussion of the issue in her article Mandatory HPV Vaccination

I personally feel that since the vaccine is only PARTLY effective against the 4 most common strains (out of 17!) that can cause the cancer - AND since you can have cervical cancer WITHOUT any strain of HPV (even the vaccine manufacturers are recommending for all women 18 and over (or sexually active) to have routine Pap smears) the government's money would be better spent on government funded PAP smears. Let's start allowing for true nationwide health care for women and fund a yearly exam!

Instead of forcing all children, regardless of need, to take the vaccine creating a false sense of security that may or may not actually protect them from cancer, how much better would it be to provide them a yearly diagnostic tool that would give ALL WOMEN the best possible chance for early diagnosis and treatment that is truly effective?

Better for all but the pharmecueticals.

An argument against manditory vaccination apart from religion. :-)
