Alternative medicines have fast become the preferred method of treatment in a society where the effects of various sicknesses being treated by medicine fast outweigh the benefits. One such alternative method that is currently in use is known as crystal healing or crystal therapy, a method which involves the use of crystals either placed around the body or held in either hand in order to heal the body and restore its circulatory and spiritual balance.
Electromagnetic Healing
The word crystal was taken from the Greek word 'krustallos', meaning ice. It was once believed that the crystal quartz had been water that was frozen so thoroughly that it would remain in a solid state forever, and hence the name crystal was born. Crystal healing is said to make use of vibration electromagnetic energies, and heals the body by clearing away any negative energies or blockages that have prevented the normal flow of these positive energies.
According to Mrs Uma, in an article in Med India 2009 entitled, ‘Crystal Healing,’ she reiterates that, ‘The human body has a complex electromagnetic system...a vibrational energy system. Nature has created crystals to be perfect electromagnetic conductors, capable of interacting with our electromagnetic system. Crystals...carry vibration that activates certain energy centers within our electromagnetic system, thus having a positive effect on our entire body systems.’
Crystal Healing using Chakra Points
Despite crystals having their own individual size, shape, colour and composition, every individual crystal can be defined as having its own unique vibration identity, which arises from their geometric alignment, colour and mineral composition. This aspect of the crystals is said to be important when it comes to healing involving the chakras, which are said to be the energy centers of the body.
Crystal healing using the chakra points will involve placing crystals on every chakra point on the body. There are seven main chakra points; these points are seen as centres for replenishing vital body energy and creating a harmonious feeling of well being. Placing crystals of the same colour on every chakra point is said to stimulate and energise the area of the body around that chakra point, creating feelings of restoration and harmony.
Crystal Therapy: Fact or Fiction?
Ever since time began, human beings have used stones, rocks or crystals in adornment or in the belief that they were powerful sources of energy that could give them protection from danger, prolong health, assist in healing or increase fertility. From the Native American Indians to the Chinese in the east, the tradition of using crystal or stone therapy has been passed on down the centuries.
Despite the assertion that crystal healing or crystal therapy only works due to the belief of the engager, one cannot ignore the voices of the natives. The Brandberg mountain range situated in a region called Damaraland in Namibia is one of the world’s biggest sources of natural crystals; the natives of the villages at the base of the mountain are convinced of the healing and rejuvenating properties of the crystals.
As crystal healing embraces a healthy body with a free flowing energy force, this form of healing is no longer on the fringes of society but with a number of holistic colleges and doctors advocating the use of crystal healing and therapy, their use has doubled to include users from all nations, both rural and urban. Despite insufficient scientific research on the health benefits of crystal healing, its continued use is surely providing the engager with a tangible benefit.
