Swine Flu Vaccine Complications

H1N1 Vaccination Symptoms and Side Effects

Nov 20, 2009 Fleur Hupston

Swine flu vaccine safety has sparked controversy and debates rage. This article looks at the possible complications and side effects of vaccinations.

Are there swine flu vaccine complications? Is it necessary to be vaccinated at all? Many say that vaccines are invaluable and have saved lives, others feel that they are unnecessary and building one's immune health is a better solution.

Swine Flu Vaccine Side Effects

Immediate side effects of the swine flu vaccination include headaches, muscle aches, feeling run down, nausea, fever and vomiting.

Nasal spray vaccine reported side effects include runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, headache and/or general flu symptoms.

More Serious Complications of Swine Flu Vaccinations

Side-effects from the H1N1 flu shot include the possibility of Guillain-Barre syndrome. According to a study authored by Dr. Rustam Al-Shahi Salman and Professor Patrick Chinnerye of the Association of British Neurologists, "Following the 1976 program of vaccination against swine influenza in the US, a retrospective study found a possible eight-fold increase in the incidence of GBS."

Mercury poisoning is one of the concerns with any vaccination. In recent years the additive, thimerosal, which contains mercury, has been removed from most vaccines. However, the H1N1 flu shot still contains a high level of mercury and this alone is a concern for children, pregnant women and the elderly.

The Age of Autism, a daily web newspaper covering the autism epidemic, has raised some important points about adjuvants (pharmacological or immunological agents that modify the effect of other agents such as vaccines). "Of concern is that the proposed adjuvants (AS03 and MF59) are squalene (oil) based and studies suggest that exposure to squalene is associated with production of auto-antibodies and auto-immune disease," the website states. What's more, some veterans have claimed that squalene adjuvant in vaccines was responsible for Gulf War Syndrome.

The FDA is charged with protecting the American people from unsafe drugs. Their intention to speed the swine flu vaccine into production has caused concern about the safety of the new drug. Questions still need to be answered as regards the long term effects and health benefits of the swine flu vaccination.

Whether or not to take a swine flu vaccine is a decision that must rest with individuals, who must make an informed choice and weigh the pros and cons of such vaccinations.
