The human body is changing in a universal sense. We are responding to numerous lifestyle stresses and environmental changes. Most of us are responding to these changes in ways that do not reveal good health. H1N1 “swine flu” is a scary prospect. This is a good time to look at boosting immunity to prevent health issues.

How Can We Strengthen Our Bodies to Prevent Flu?

Here are some simple ways to help your health easily and pro-actively. Added to a complete and nutritious diet, these simple ideas can take you from merely surviving to thriving.

EFAs: (Essential Fatty Acids) these include: olive oil/sesame oil/grape seed oil/coconut oil-in short, all plant oils, with the exception of palm kernel oil. Avoid the consumption of hydrogenated oils, as they are technically “dead foods.” EFAs support brain performance, memory, nervous system, organ and joint health, overall brain health and work to fight depression. Some good sources are: raw hemp oil, raw flax seed oil, coconut oil, raw virgin olive oil, sesame oil, grape seed oil, walnut oil, avocado oil. There is no need to take them in capsule form if they are added to food just before serving. They hold the most nutrients when they’re not cooked or heated, as they are volatile.

Greens Plus ™: or a greens/Spirulina blend for mixing in blender drinks. Your chosen blend should include chlorella and/or blue-green algae. Green products and foods clean the digestive system, support proper organ movement and internal body system health, and purify the blood. Additionally, greens support glycemic movement to normalize blood sugar levels in the body and reduce cravings for unhealthy foods as they help to get oxygen to the brain. Some good sources are: any fresh raw organic leafy green, alfalfa, fresh organic herbs, wheat grass, and spinach. Also, locally-produced arugula, kale, chard, Spirulina and the product brand Greens Plus ™.

Multi-Vitamins:should contain a scientifically measurable level of mega antioxidants & the whole B-complex spectrum of vitamins for the central nervous system. This also offers overall, whole-body processes support. ("USANA" brand is highly rated by scientists and recommended). Men don’t need to consume an iron supplement, but women can boost their daily intake by adding blackberries, the world’s highest source of iron, to their diet. Cooking in a cast iron pan will also up iron content in food by 30%. If you purchase supplements, watch for what you’re spending money on; they must be easily absorptive and guarantee results; many shelf brands in the grocery/health food store are 98% junk (filler) or are past their prime date for bio-availability. Some solid sources are brewer's yeast, engevita yeast, nutritional yeast, Guinness beer, molasses, maple syrup, dried or raw unsulphured cherries, blueberries, varied raw salads with locally-produced greens, leafy organic greens,( lightly-steamed or raw). The consumption of nutritionally-complete meals cannot be stressed enough, with each food group represented. All the food itself should be served tender-crisp, not over cooked. Heating and cooking food destroys nutrient levels.

Multi-Minerals: this combination should include calcium, magnesium and potassium, with vitamin D to assist in optimum absorption. These are especially important as in female health as women age. ("USANA" brand is most scientifically proven to yield quick, palpable results with respect to quality and ease of absorption.) Some decent sources include: purple Russian varietal organic potatoes, organic yams, organic bananas, organic dairy products ("conventional" dairy products clog the system with other junk and are not fully absorptive; choose only organic dairy products), avocados, parsley, spinach, nettles. Also soaked, unprocessed, non-pasteurized nuts and seeds have a higher enzymatic content, which assists the body further in full-spectrum mineral absorption. If you’re sleepless, your mineral content in your diet may not be what it ought to be.

Activated Charcoal: this is great for minor stomach upsets, food poisoning, parasite control in the body, flu's, common colds etc. (use when sick our out of balance internally only-do not use daily as a routine. It will strip the body of essential life force if it it’s not used in accordance with these guidelines) this product neutralizes toxins so they may leave the body without creating further illness or side effects. Use this instead of harmful antibiotics, which deplete the system. While this is not readily produced by nature, if you go camping and find yourself ailing with Beaver Fever (giardia), or you plant trees for a living, or venture into rough nature often, you need to keep this with you. Burn the toast over the next open fire and eat it, if you have none on you.

Some other wonderful “system neutralizers” to reduce acidity in the body and increase alkalinity are: green clay, white benzonite clay and fuller's earth. These products aid in neutralizing and removing heavy metals or toxic material from the body safely and without a great deal of discomfort. And acid body is primed for disease. The standard Canadian diet is very acidic, so aiming to neutralize PH levels to normal levels by bulking up on alkaline sources of food is wise. Beets and spinach are alkaline vegetables, for example.

Colloidal silver is a magnificent blood cleanser, brought to us via the ancient Mayans. It is available in liquid form at most health food stores. An ancient Chinese herb that grows easily in British Columbia, Gingko Biloba, is another blood deeper cleanser that boosts memory function in its release of toxicity from the body. These are both wonderful tertiary level cleansers for fine-tuning the body, and boosting immunity. They encourage full rebalancing of all body systems as they allow higher levels of oxygen to reach the brain with improved blood flow. They should be used at the end of a “cleanse,” as tertiary and/or ongoing neutralizers/energizers. The services of a certified naturopath or herbologist to help clarify your personal best dosage and duration are recommended. Do not attempt a “cleanse” without obtaining the advice and support of a naturopath first.
